Narek: Change the title and the slogan of the project

OMPlanet is An Initiative to Co-create a Self-Governing Multidimensional Network Ecosystem of interconnected social, economic and ICT systems owned and governed by its members:
* to help people to self-organise, co-create harmonious living environments and thriving communities,
* to support continual interaction between people, spaces and activities at local and global scales,
* to gather a new Flower of Life - an interconnected global matrix of people, groups and collectively contributed resources from many different dimensions.

This is both a revolutionary ICT and a revolutionary societal project incorporating new solutions from both fields:

* In the ICT field it is an effort to create a network ecosystem of interoperable platforms to provide a decentralized medium for free communication, exchange of social media, participatory decision making, activity planning, collaboration and value exchange. An open source distributed software with open protocols that is developed and managed by its owning members. Focus on federation of ownership, interoperability between different dimensions of services and careful consideration of users' privacy preferences. As a result to trigger a seamless flow of free interaction.

* In the Social field it is an initiative to create a new organization owned and governed by its participant members, with chaordic principles. It has the practical goal to interconnect all independent intentional communities worldwide, youth/spiritual/ecological NGOs, non-formal educational institutions, caring and inspired individuals with a new, holistic vision of life, people dealing with innovative solutions for global civil society, sustainable co-living, holistic human well-being, and other related areas.

This project does not promote one particular philosophy or vision. The creation of favorable conditions for solutions to emerge is the essential goal, and it therefore does not try to influence the decision-making power of individuals. This only aims at providing free tools of interaction, cooperation and sharing, to increase the visibility and connectivity between the ordinary and caring people free from command-and-control organisations and acting spontaneously, guided by their common sense, to let them self-organize and find the right vector of growth.

While this is a clean slate design and there is much space for creativity, many similar projects are emerging in the scene. Some examples of this include: federated/decentralised/p2p social networks, p2p file sharing tools, real life transport/ride sharing web sites, p2p couch/garden/garage/car sharing and renting web sites, participatory democratic decision making platforms, eGovernance platforms, crowd-funding/micro-funding platforms, non-monetary value exchange systems, virtual currency or bartering, in the social field: sustainable eco-villages and communes, experimental settlement projects, etc.

The OMPlanet Organisation
OMPlanet has the principles of chaordic organisation owned and governed by its participant members. It is initiated by an independent team of volunteer researchers who are working to implement participatory democratic processes of self-organisation and distributed ownership through the use of ICT solutions.

The OMPlanet organisation is entirely transparent or open source. By design it will guarantee that there will be no profit-driven company owning or controlling OMPlanet in a centralized way. No one will become a single shareholder to receive direct credits or provide direct goods on behalf of OMPlanet. The ICT systems will be based on free software platforms with interoperable protocols open to all communities, organizations and individuals. To organize itself it will need an administrative core that will act transparently and rely on its members' voluntary contributions and will take into full account their decision-making power. The free will of people will keep the project running for as long as it is useful.

The informal purpose of the initiative is to project a vision of fair and just human affairs into all areas of human activity, to empower individuals to self-organize into sustainable communities and to live in harmony with themselves and with the environment: Together, we have the ability to transform societies and governments by putting them into the hands of many more individuals, by providing them the freedom to self-organize and co-create sustainable and harmonious life on this wonderful planet Earth. And we are not dreamers, we want to live it during our lives and we offer rational solutions for it.

The OMPlanet network ecosystem is a distributed model of interlinked data systems that expose, exchange and share data among different systems in the network and outside of its boundaries based on decentralized standard descriptions.

OMPlanet systems are similar to distributed local/personal clouds each of them managed and owned by its community members. Each OMPLanet system describes it's own data structure and models of interaction with other heterogeneous systems and data sources. One of the main objectives is to define a compact all-inclusive set of data models using decentralized standard descriptions to achieve interoperable, simple and uniform design across the ecosystem.

The decentralized standard descriptions enable data portability and toolchain interoperability among different web services, database systems and applications. We recommend to describe the OMPlanet network ecosystem similar to an ontology using the RDF specification recommended by W3C. We specify the OMPLanet social graph with a set of 12 dimensions each of them representing a specific group of social objects (e.g people, places, events, etc.).

Each of the 12 dimensions is organised into a specific data structure that can be provided/hosted by different local/personal clouds with corresponding web service interfaces. Usually each object is given a unique URI and it has different types of relations with other objects of the same dimension or in relation with objects from possibly all other dimensions.

We have used the following ontology-oriented terms to describe the elements, their properties and relations in the OMPlanet network:

*Dimension: A general descriptive name for the group of object classes in a specific sub-domain, represents the top concept.

*Type: The specific class describing the set of objects with the same type. E.g. the class Person to specify all the objects in the domain People.

*Relationships: denotes a relationship between objects, one object can reference to another object/s from the same dimension or from other dimensions: e.g. People object can have relations as friend or co-worker to several other People objects from the same dimension and as well can have several references to Places objects with relation types as work place, home or meeting place, or to Services objects with relations as needed or offering, or references to Events objects as participant or organiser, etc.

*Data Properties or "Atributes": Parameters that objects can have. Holds an object's member variable specific to its dimension: e.g. People object can be a user profile with the attributes profile name, unique ID, interest tags, etc.

*Actions: the verbs which show what action is possible to do with the specific object. E.g. share, comment, tag, link, buy, join, help, etc.

*Services: describes specific types of web services that are related to the object class: e.g. social network, geographic map service, etc.

*Structures: describes the data model or the common structure handling with the objects of the specific dimension. E.g. social graph for people, calendar for events, map for places, timeline for projects, etc.

*Schemas: provide a data-modelling vocabulary for RDF data.

The OMPlanet Network Model
[[File:atomium.jpg|thumb|200px| The universe is fractal, the self-similar patterns of natural organisation, interaction and influence repeat themselves in multiple scales.<br/>
<br/>
Earth is in an interwoven dance with the Moon and other planets around the Sun, and the Sun in turn flowing in sync with other stars around the Milky Way Galaxy. The Galaxy itself is traveling in a web with other Galaxies that form our Galactic Cluster, and that cluster dances with countless others across the expanding Universe.<br/>
<br/>
Electrons are moving around the Nucleus of an Atom. The Atoms dance in interwoven chains as electromagnetic waves pass from one to another along a helical spiral that becomes DNA. Chains of DNA weave spiral after spiral layer around protein spheres that become Chromosomes, and these in turn radiate energy webs like Galaxies in a cluster that are surrounded by the Nuclear Membrane in the core of a Cell, an entire Universe of life in itself.<br/>
<br/>
The similar patterns exist in human societies and organisations. The patterns of human organisation are projected also onto the online systems and networks, for example as multitudes of social networks and exchange platforms of different types in the Web, but not always in the same natural harmony due to the human factor.]]
The OMPlanet network offers the genome of natural organisations: fractal stacking and intercommunication of networks at different levels to grow an ecosystem of interconnected self-organized social networks, in simple words a network of networks.

We will use the planetary system analogy to help explain the architecture of the network ecosystem.

Here, the nodes that constitute the network are the OMPlanet platforms, represented as the planets. Each user, organization or community can have its own hosted planet and it will belong to its community. On their collectively owned planet the users can control their private data and applications of interaction.

Users will be able to interact with each other within their planet as well as with users of other planets. Planets support 1 to 12 different dimensions of interaction that include social networking, file sharing, offering services, banking, etc. Users can also interact across different dimensions of interaction, wherever such interoperability is possible.

The advantages of the OMPlanet planetary system is that it is community-centric - each group of users controls its own planet with its data and services, it is poly-centric - all the ecosystem is federated between different communities/planets, and it is interoperable - there are agreements between different dimensions of interaction within and between the planets.

The OMPlanet network has a distributed model of interlinked data systems that expose, exchange and share data among different systems in the network and outside of its boundaries based on decentralized standard descriptions.

The decentralized standard descriptions enable data portability and toolchain interoperability among different database systems, web services and applications. Describing the OMPlanet network ecosystem is similar to an ontology modelling using the RDF specification recommended by W3C. It specifies a set of 12 dimensions each of them representing a specific group of social objects (e.g people, places, events, etc.):
The GeoSocial Real-time Radar
[[File:Sonar-blue.png|thumb|200px|FreeSONAR www.freesonar.org]]
The migration of web services from the PCs to mobile devices brings in new dynamics into interaction. A new dimensional parameter has entered the scene - real time location information. To use the full potential of spatial information, OMPlanet is developing its own social radar called FreeSonar, it connects the dimensions of People, Places and Events in the OMPlanet network ecosystem.

FreeSonar helps to link the virtual world of the Web with the real world, encouraging to interact in real time at real places based on shared activities
#it is a GEOsocial network with new user interaction scenarios using GEOmetric pattern projections onto a GEOgraphic map.
#it has selective visibility features based on tags/keywords which provide better ways to solve user privacy concerns (users can choose to become visible to each other if they are sharing common interests for example).
#it is interoperable with a maximum number of web services - sharing places of interest, events in near proximity, organizing gatherings, transport sharing, etc.
The Starwheel Community Integration Framework
[[File:6.jpg|thumb|200px|Starwheel www.starwheel.cc]]
OMPlanet offers a concept of new taxonomy system of collaborative tagging (a folksonomy) called Starwheel based on Flower of Life geometry. One of the aspects is that each user or community creates a user centric tag-cloud of its own domain called Seed of Life which is then integrated into the main taxonomy called Flower of Life. This is a new way for content organisation, visualization and navigation:

# integrated Flower of Life taxonomy is a combination of all smaller "Seed of Life" taxonomies. Such organisation of tags provides cross-domain linking of people, places, events and other dimensions across the various web platforms in the network.
# Flower and Seed of Life user interfaces are interlinked tag-boards containing selective content contributed by each member or a group.
# it has ontology-oriented content navigation and search of people and open social media with intuitive content visualization arranged in geometric 2D and 3D patterns.

The Starwheel structures will be the common intuitive interfaces to serve as a link between different dimensions throughout OMPlanet network ecosystem.

We are currently creating the FreeSonar mobile geo-social networking application to connect People, Places and Events of OMPlanet ecosystem.

FreeSonar is a free software that enables people to freely communicate and share activities in real life, real time and near proximity. In practice, using their mobile phones or desktop PCs, users will be able to do the following:

* geolocate people, POI (places of interests), real time events or activities in their near proximity.

* socialize with people with similar interests. Find each other by location, by interest or by common activity and safely communicate. The FreeSonar provides tools for free and secure social networking/microblogging using OMPlanet free web services and interoperable with other federated social networks.

* self-organize activity or an event. Users can publish real-time information about their current activity in their current location, initiate new activities, organize events or look for real-time events happening around them, or publish a demand for a specific type of event in a given area.

* ride sharing. If a user is driving somewhere with his personal car and is willing to share available free seats, the Sonar can assist in real time to find other people going in the same direction and offer to share the ride (and the other way around - to assist hitch-hikers to find a ride).

* travel sharing. Users can finding travellers in their neighborhood, share their ongoing or future travel plans, organize or join to a trip and later share the experiences.

* room sharing. Users who have available living space for a short time stay can offer their "couch" to travelers. Travelers can search for places available to stay around them (sharing here is not for money like in guest houses but mostly motivated by cultural exchange and sharing).

* and more...

FreeSonar is designed to be interoperable with other similar open services and applications, carefully considers users freedom, privacy and security providing them maximal control of their visibility, ownership of personal data and independence from proprietary services.
Federation and Interoperability
By providing the federation and interoperability of platforms and web services, OMPlanet aims to make an ecosystem not fallible to attempts of exploiting or manipulating it for personal benefit, to centralize and misappropriate resources for interests of few shareholders.

Federated networks are designed upon the same principles of confederation. In simple words: in a federated environment there are many service providers from different domains for similar types of service but they are all interconnected and it is possible for the users to interact across the platforms. Everyone is able to choose his/her preferred platform to access his/her web service (e.g. social network) which is in turn interoperable with other platforms.

Public Web Services
However preferable it is to have such platforms interacting in federated or peer-to-peer manner with decentralized management and all data in distributed servers and DBs, it is too complex to make it possible without using some global centralized services. For example to make available services such as unique ID generation, user authentication, offline messaging, sharing access to public/protected data, etc., centralized public web services and centralized data storage is necessary at some point.

Considering these limitations, the OMPlanet ecosystem will also hold public client-server based systems in a specific way. The necessary services and servers will be transparently maintained by community volunteer efforts. Explained in P2P logic there needs to be enough super-peers that are willing to host some part of server functionality and light-weight peers who are only users in the environment (e.g. users accessing via limited mobile devices).

Below is one of the early stage sketches of the ecosystem that represents real world dimensions interacting with OMPlanet public web services.
Starwheel
Starwheel is a concept for a new type of community based taxonomy system (folksonomy) with interactive user interfaces for multidimensional social media.

Starwheel serves as a semantic core shared across different dimensions of OMPlanet ecosystem. It provides linking of tags with social media, people, places, events and other dimensions of OMPlanet.

Data
Each user or community creates categories of selected contents creating a new taxonomy for its interest domain called a Seed of Life. The system integrates the user-centric taxonomies into the main multi-domain taxonomy called Flower of Life.

The contents are collected and rated collaboratively by the communities of different interest domains.

Design
The Flower of Life Interfaces provide intuitive navigation for multidimensional structured data, mainly targeted towards mobile devices with limited screen area and with direct touch interaction. =Definition=

Description
FreeSonar has a goal to provide federated, secure and free web services using open standards and protocols.
In practice, using their mobile phones on the go or desktop PCs, users will be able to do the following:

* Socialize with people in their near proximity. Find each other by location, interest keyword or by other criteria and safely communicate. The Sonar provides free and secure social networking/microblogging/geo-locating tools via its own free web services or wherever it is possible via decentrilzed and federated web services.

* couch sharing. Users who have available living space for a short time stay can offer their "couch" to travelers. Travelers can search for places available to stay around them (sharing here is not for money like in guest houses but motivated by cultural exchange. e.g. http://www.couchsurfing.org).

Features
Simple user interface
- Almost invisible user interface, intuitive, minimalistic.<br>
- Visualization of the geo-radar.<br>
- "one-click" for main actions, maximum "three-clicks" for anything else.

Social networking/microblogging
- Decentralized authentication.<br>
- Personal profiles.<br>
- Friends list/groups.<br>
- Private messaging.<br>
- Wall posts, microblogs.<br>
- Profile search by name/location/keyword/etc.<br>

Event/activity sharing
- Organize events or activities: party, training, exhibition, festival, etc.<br>
- Publish event demands.<br>
- Join/subscribe to public events.<br>
- Search events by title/keyword/status/location/time.<br>
- etc.

Travel/transport sharing
- let hitch-hikers know that there are available car sits from location A to B (real-time or at the specified date).<br>
- let drivers know that you need to go from location A to B (real-time or at the specified date).<br>
- share travel plans.<br>
- share travel experiences, read/publish into geocoded wiki articles. The Wikitravel project is of special interest:<br>
*Wikitravel - Wikitravel is a project to create a free, complete, up-to-date, and reliable worldwide travel guide. So far it has 24,445 destination guides and other articles written and edited by Wikitravellers from around the globe.

Location sharing, real-time map and AR objects
- Display current location on a map (if enabled by user's privacy options).<br>
- Publish/search places of interest: coffee houses, hotels, accommodation rentals, etc.<br>
- Publish geonotes: users can leave a note at a specific location for themselves or other people which they will receive next time being there.<br>
- Manual user checkins into the places and defined areas on the map.<br>

Location triggers
- Automatic location trigger to check-in the user into user's predefined list of areas/places.<br>
- Automatic triggering of a specified callback URL when user enters or leaves a specific location.<br>
- Automatic check-ins on other geo-social platforms using open APIs (Foursquare, Facebook Places, Latitude, etc).<br>

Radar with alerts/proximity notifications
To eliminate the necessity to query for a specific real-time object repeatedly users can place alerts or subscribe to proximity notifications for the following:<br>
- If there are people matching specific search criteria in near proximity.<br>
- If there are places-of-interest matching the given search keyword/tag.<br>
- If there is a car with free space/hitch-hiker going to a given destination.<br>
- If there are other travel plans match the given destinations/activities/interests.<br>
- If there are non-private events matching the given keywords/tags/dates/location/status/etc.<br>

Open APIs
- Provide open access APIs and web services.<br>
<br>

Architecture
P2P social network platform
There are already several protocols and free software implementations for federated/decentralized/P2P social networking and micro-blogging platforms and Sonar intends to integrate the existing best practises.<br>
But there no solutions yet for having distributed/P2P real-time maps and location sharing services without the use of centralized web services. So for the current stage project Sonar will have to provide some non distributable central web services as well.<br>

Real-time geo-map
Sonar has to provide real-time map of:
User locations: GPS-enabled mobile phones which are connected to the internet will send data to the server at regular intervals. If there is no GPS the location data can be calculated from wifi spots and cell towers with sufficient approximation.<br>
Event locations: events happening at a specified time span at a specified location.<br>
Places-of-interest: places named by users not as street addresses but locations like "Home", "Dood's Club" etc.<br>

Augmented reality layers
Sonar has to provide map layers of AR objects, and aggregate other 3-th party AR layers into the map (Google Maps and Layar provide web services and open APIs to access their user contributed database of places-of-interest on different layers).<br>
<br>
<br>

Promotion Plan
- Build testbeds to demonstrate the software on one or more usage areas.<br>
- For the start find one specific niche, a community and offer the new networking opportunity to them creating their unique social graph.<br>
- Offer collaboration to mobile operator companies. If possible use the contact list of user's mobile phone, identify the numbers via the mobile service provider and use the social graph of the mobile users as a kick-start for our social network.<br>
- Offer solutions to universities and start networking the students.<br>

Evaluation
The mobile phone will soon become the most powerful channel for persuasion, more influential than TV, radio, print, or the Internet. Mobile devices can be designed to motivate and influence people, this emerging trend will change the way we live, work, communicate and play.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Mobile Software market. The global market for mobile software is projected to reach $79.7 billion by 2017, primarily driven by rapid proliferation of mobile computing devices, and waxing popularity of location-based services. Source: San Jose, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) April 18, 2011

Quid software creates multi-dimensional industry maps (like the one the right) which represents 4,000 technology enterprises from venture-backed start-ups to established public companies that received media coverage and showed capital growth last year. Such maps expose relationships between and across sectors and, even more tantalizing, the white spaces among them. They reveal not only which sectors are thick with competition but where in the market white spaces are open for the innovation with new products and services no one has even dreamed up yet. Here in this capture on the right we can notice the apparent white space in between the sectors NETWORKS, TRAVEL, EDUCATION, SOCIAL MEDIA, E-COMMERCE where the new sector GEOLOCATION is starting to form.

Report from Juniper Research says that the number of subscribers using mobile Internet services will rise from 577 million currently, to top 1.7 billion by 2013, spurred by demand for collaborative applications known collectively as 'web 2.0,' and greater 2.5/3G penetration. Putting that figure into some context, a report from Gartner had said that the worldwide PC base would reach 2 billion by 2014 - so internet access by mobile phones will represent at around 50% of the total internet usage.

About
Principles
Factually OMPlanet itself is to be only a set of principles, agreements and protocls to co-create such an ecosystem by the community.

The members will obey its rules because it is out of their interest to keep the environment workable for all its members. Majority of the members will have a stake in preserving its order and supporting its sustainable growth. There can be also a set of incentive policies to encourage sharing and contribution.

Here are mentioned some of the primary principles that should be universal and be followed by everyone. Secondary principles, agreements and rules can be developed locally by its specific environment.

Freedom
OMPlanet environment and its softwares are to be free - having the four essential freedoms as defined by the Free Software Foundation, and all data and contents in the environment generated or imported by users are to be available to be used by their owners (share, copy, export, terminate) as they wish.

Independence
OMPlanet ecosystem has to be financially and politically independent and its administrative activity has to be self-financed by community contributions. All donations and financial transactions maid for the maintanace of the system are to be made transparent to the public. People willing to contribute money should be able to - 1. choose to what particular direction their donation should be used from the public list of described needs, 2. trace the usage which will be transparent, 3. remain anonymous contributor if they wish (exception to tranparency rule to encourage contribution).

The independence from monopolistic service providers can be achieved as the federated internet protocols and softwares will develop. Everyone should be allowed to choose his or her preferred serviced provider to access the services without being walled off from each-other.

Even the independence from Internet can be achieved by using special P2P network architectures - P2P networks can provide delay tolerant communication via all possible means that any one peace of hardwear can comunicate with any other peace of hardware (Internet, intranet, bluetooth, SMS, USB memory disk, etc.)

Federation/Decentralization
Federated networks are architected upon the same principles of confederation. In simple words: in federated environment there are many service providers from different domains for similar types of service (e.g. social networking) but they are all interconnected and it possible for the users to interact across the networks. Everyone will be able to choose his preferred platform to access his social network which is in turn connected to other social networks. In federated networks user has the freedom to change its service provider to the one it likes more without loosing personal data, files, or friends wherever they are.

One of the many benefits of the federation is that we can also have monopoly-free censorship-free social networks.

Transparency
There is a race right now to own the social graph by all social network giants. We must be aweare that such social services are so fundamental that they have to be fairly regulated and free from commercial or any other exploitation.

OMPlanet is to provide services and collaboration system not fallible to attempts of exploiting or manipulating it for personal benefits, attempts to centralize and misappropriate resources.

For the development and maintenance of the principal parts the members should accept transparent administration and mutual surveillance.

Security, Privacy
Servcies have to be publicly accesible as much as it dose not violet privacy issues.
"...Everyone — individuals, businesses, universities and non-profits — deserve to manage their own connection to the social web without sacrificing privacy, security and control." — Evan Prodromou, founder of StatusNet, Inc<br />
"Diaspora lets you sort your connections into groups called aspects. Unique to Diaspora, aspects ensure that your photos, stories and jokes are shared only with the people you intend." Diaspora Project

Community Contribution/Collaboration
Community contribution - independent self-sustainability is possible through community contributions and collaborative efforts, the will of people will keep the project going forward as long as the project is useful.

Collaborative consumption - this is a term that includes many different ways people are saving money and reducing their consumption through creative collaboration, examples are P2P sharing, P2P renting, bartering, fractional ownership, crowdfunding, microinvestments, P2P transactions, and more.

Protocols
OMPlanet as a computer network environment provides protocols and public APIs (e.g. OpenSocial*) for different applications from different users to interact in the environment maintaining its concepts.

Common protocols to facilitate "multi-domain" networking, etc...

Architecture
The OMPlanet network ecosystem has 12 dimensions/spheres each of them representing specific dimension of human activity. All objects from all the dimensions are interacting and are in relation with each other - with objects from their own dimension as well with objects from all other dimensions.

OMPlanet 12 Dimensions
Federated Architecture
"We dream of a world where all social networks are connected and work together in a way similar to email. Our projects aims to define a language to bridge these networks and make it easy for social networks to join a bigger social web. You're invited to help make this a reality." OpenSocialWeb

P2P Architecture
Peer-to-peer model where people deliver services directly to each other instead of monopolized client-server models.

As follows from the Principles of OMPlanet interactions in the environment are preferably to be peer-to-peer and main services and data are to be decentralized. But generally peer-to-peer distributed systems have some important limitations: for example to make available global services such as unique ID generation, user authentication, offline messaging, sharing access to public/protected data, etc. is not possible without centralized public web services with centrilized data storage.

Considering benefits, limitations and complexities of P2P systems the OMPlanet architecutre is proposed in two development stages:

The first and less complex architecture is to have a centralized server-based system to provide all such necessary web services and databases on centrilized web servers transparently maintained by community volunteer efforts.

And the second stage is to gradually avoid concentration of all the responsibilities in one place. With federated architecture, complex P2P protocls and APIs the data storage and service hosting is to be distributed between federated peer servers. Explained in P2P logic there need to be enough super-peers that are willing to host some part of server functionality and light-weight peers who are only users in the environment (users e.g. accessing via mobile devices).

Multi Agent Architecture
The multiagent paradigm can be superimposed on a P2P architecture, where agents embody the principles of the environment, the collective behavior, and the interaction protocols of each peer.

Related Examples
Diaspora - "Diaspora is run on a network of connected servers, or "pods". To join Diaspora, user do not need to set up his/her own pod - it is possible to join an existing pod running the Diaspora software. The pod user can join could be run by a friend, a university, or official pod, run by the project's founders. All of the Diaspora pods communicate and make up the Diaspora Network."

OpenSocial - is a set of common APIs for web-based social network applications, developed by Google along with MySpace and a number of other social networks. It provides universal standarts for public access APIs that many social networking sites are starting to support now including sites such as Hi5.com, MySpace, Orkut, Netlog, Sonico.com, Friendster, Ning, and Yahoo! Applications implementing the OpenSocial APIs will be interoperable with any of such social network system that supports OpenSocial.

Implementation Plan
There are many other projects already in this area making the first successful steps. Project OMPlanet is not competing with them but it tries to collaborate in a an open way. We understand that the realization of such kind of project is unrealistic considering the size and resources of the current OmPlant team alone, and without collaboration the endeavor will have only a creative entertainment purpose. But with the holistic view of all the problems and possible solutions in the area we will be capable of delivering new solutions to the community, however small but in tune with the right current.

Our development team has already started to play with the source codes and as a realistic implementation plan we intend to deliver a free software application for one of the 12 dimensions of OMPlanet - the :Category:Sonar project is our start for the Travel dimension.

*GNU AGPL - The GNU Affero General Public License is a free, copyleft license for software and other kinds of works, specifically designed to ensure cooperation with the community in the case of network server software.

The OMPlanet Network Model
[[File:atomium.jpg|thumb|200px| The universe is fractal, the self-similar patterns of natural organisation, interaction and influence repeat themselves in multiple scales.<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>

Consistent evolution of the OMPlanet ecosystem and collaboration of people and communities through its means can be realised only if 1) the technical platforms are properly developed 2) several target communities are actively involved using key applications and services and 3) a process has started to interconnect more actors from different domains across different platforms to bring a seamless flow of interaction.

As initial planets and inhabitants of the ecosystem we have selected to involve the following communities:
* World wisdom councils - The WorldShift Network initiated by The Club of Budapest which already connects plenty of organizations and individuals worldwide with the focus on "unity of humanity and nature", "global subsistence economy", "participative civil society", "salutogenesis" and other progressive fields.
* Sustainable communities - The Global Ecovillage Network with more then 3000 sustainable co-living settlements worldwide.
* Intentional communities - Rainbow Gatherings temporary gatherings of up to 30 000 people several times a year held in outdoor settings, people all over the world connected by the ideals of peace, love, harmony, freedom and community.
* NGOs and constructive activists - EU Youth in Action with over 110 000 young people organizing activities with subjects of non-formal learning, active citizenship, solidarity, tolerance, etc.

Open Media Planet (OMPlanet) is a concept of Self-Governing Multidimensional Network Ecosystem of interconnected social and ICT systems owned by its members:
* to help people self-organise, create sustainable living environments and harmonious communities,
* to support continual interaction between people, places and activities at places of near proximity,
* to gather a Flower of Life - an interconnected global matrix - of people and collectively contributed open media from all dimensions.

Opportunities and Challenges of Interoperability
The existing protocols and platforms are mature enough to start the process of emerging into a global federated social web. There are many federated/decentralized/p2p social networking platforms currently evolving:
*Diaspora, StatusNet, Friendika, GNU Social, Ampify, PeerSon, etc.

Early in 2011 there were about 10 such initiatives and after one year period there are more than 50 projects. Each of them provides federation between the users but witihn the same platform. There is no consistent interoperability between the platforms.

We want to establish a neutral, trustworthy, multi-stakeholder organisation:
*To catalyst the efforts of organisations or individual initiatives sharing the vision of global federated social web.
*To provide a common ground and to remove obstacles so that different ICT projects that develop similar platforms and protocols can synchronise their efforts and find a consensus.
*To bring cooperation and trust, allow compromise to create new interoperability protocols and related policies that can be acceptable by vast majority of SNs.

The chalange is not technical any more, the chalange is to find new organizational principles:
The principles of the new "Network of Networks " owned and governed by its participating member networks:
*Member organisations govern their parts of the network which they represent.
*The Netowrk of Networks itself is governed by the board of directors which are appointed by member networks. There will be no self-perpetuating board, all member organisations will participate in electing the board anually.
*The Representation on the board is balanced to ensure that all members have a voice in decision-making and that no particular interest dominates.
*The voting right of a board director is related to its network size, e.g. one vote for every 1000 users.
*Different approaches of participatory democratic decision making could be used - consensus, voting, and others.
*Membership is open for any network, community or organization to join provided they commit to obey the principles.
*The networks could be sold or traded but the membership can not be sold.

The “Network of Networks” organisation will create the constitution and the backbone according to these principles. The participating social networks are expected to respect and abide the principles defined by the constitution . To sustain itself it will need an administrative core that will rely on equally distributed membership fees. This will make for an organisation that can be compared to original VISA International Foundation or to some constituional principles of Europen Unioun.

Incentives for other organisations to join:
*Trust a neutral body as a catalyst to collaborate and compromise.
*Everyone is free to use the protocols and open technologies developed by the alliance but only the members of the alliance will have the power to decide upon the standardisation of new protocols.
*Each community will be able to set up and organise its own platform with its data and services.
*No SN company or community will agree to join with an other SN company which has its own interests. But they will agree to join into one neutral organisation that has no self-interest and is fairly managed by its member parts.
*Member organisations will benefit more from opening their database to gain a larger audience than from exclusively receiving benefits from a community locked in their domains.

What is the current scale, organisational structure and actual purpose of Facebook:
*12% of world population are in Facebook (845 million active users).
*If Facebook was a country it would be the size of EU and US togheter.
*Key management personnel comprise only 3 people.
*More than 50 % of ownership belongs to 4 shareholders.
*The actual purpose of the company is to increase the profits of few shareholders.

It is apparent that we need to find new organisational structure which will have more equal distribution of power and wealth, which can meet the challenges of competitive interests and bring cooperation and which will most importantly have authetentic purpose and principles.

How the Network of Networks is different:
*The new organisational structure and democratic instruments that will make it more easy to reach a consensus and where further simplified solutions could be rapidly developed.
*Clearly stated purpose and principles: trust is the catalyst factor for many to join.
*No profit-driven company owning and controlling it in a centralized way. No vested interest of single company. All interests of all stake-holders equally considered.

The key challenge of the OMPlanet initiative is the adoption of already existing open technologies and creation of possible synergies and interoperability.

Achieving the interoperability of such complex community-based ICT platforms is a complicated process that involves various actors and challenges far beyond technical issues. We propose the following actions:
1) create the environment and conditions for such initiatives to start
2) keep the space open for experimentation
3) invest in creating stronger and neutral coordination and standardization bodies within the ecosystem and externally (e.g. W3C, ISO, etc).

Keeping the analogy with the planetary system, the central standardization body is the sun. The sun holds all the planets in the system in right orbits (provides the standards and common protocols of interaction). Just as the sun is 'only giving and not taking', similarly whoever has power in decision-making and creates rules should not be the one who benefits from it. (In contrast the rules of existing major social networking or cloud services are made differently for each service provider by itself and competing companies are not motivated by the creation of rules that are beneficial for all parties, they rather create closed markets with rules for their own benefit).

We see the possibility to establish a neutral international body - "Network of Social Networks", which will catalyst the efforts of all member organisations or individual initiatives sharing the vision, opportunities and challenges of interoperability.

This approach will make possible an alternative trend of evolution for the global Internet ecosystem which is now threatened to become a government censured and corporate owned oligopolistic market centralized within few key service providers (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, etc.). For example with the emerging cloud computing models all the personal user data, applications and services are being increasingly swallowed into the clouds. Millions of users will be reduced into powerless clients unable to do their own computing and completely dependent on commercial cloud service providers. In contrast we offer new models of distributed local/personal clouds each one managed and owned by its community members.

We are open for collaboration with other groups and projects dealing with similar/complementary endeavors.

*Related ICT Endeavours - currently existing projects and organizations that develop similar platforms, protocols and policies.
*Related Social Endeavours - social organizations and institutions doing similar research.

* and more...

FreeSonar is designed to be interoperable with other similar open services and applications, carefully considers users freedom, privacy and security providing them maximal control of their visibility, ownership of personal data and independence from proprietary services.

Market Evaluation

Source: Cellular News.

Architecture
P2P connection
There are already several protocols and free software implementations for federated/decentralized/P2P social networking and micro-blogging platforms and Sonar intends to integrate the existing best practises.

But there no solutions yet for having distributed/P2P real-time maps and location sharing services without the use of centralized web services. So for the current stage project Sonar will have to provide some non distributable central web services as well.

Real-time GEOmap
Sonar has to provide real-time map of:
*User locations: GPS-enabled mobile phones which are connected to the internet will send data to the server at regular intervals. If there is no GPS the location data can be calculated from wifi spots and cell towers with sufficient approximation.
*Event locations: events happening at a specified time span at a specified location.
*Places-of-interest: places named by users not as street addresses but locations like "Home", "Dood's Club" etc.

Augmented reality layers
Sonar has to provide layers of AR objects on the map, and be able to aggregate other 3-th party AR layers (Google Maps and Layar provide web services and open APIs to access their user contributed database of places-of-interest on different layers).

"Free software" is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer.”

Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it means that the program's users have the four essential freedoms:

*The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
*The freedom to study how the program works, and change it to make it do what you wish (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
*The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
*The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others (freedom 3). By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

A program is free software if users have all of these freedoms. Thus, you should be free to redistribute copies, either with or without modifications, either gratis or charging a fee for distribution, to anyone anywhere. Being free to do these things means (among other things) that you do not have to ask or pay for permission to do so. Definition by FSF.
About Scrum
The scrum development approach
Scrum is an agile approach to software development. Rather than a full process or methodology, it is a framework. So instead of providing complete, detailed descriptions of how everything is to be done on the project, much is left up to the software development team. This is done because the team will know best how to solve the problem they are presented.

Scrum relies on a self-organizing, cross-functional team. The scrum team is self-organizing in that there is no overall team leader who decides which person will do which task or how a problem will be solved. Those are issues that are decided by the team as a whole. The team is cross-functional so that everyone necessary to take a feature from idea to implementation is involved.

The scrum team
Scrum teams do not include any of the traditional software engineering roles such as programmer, designer, tester, or architect. Everyone on the project works together to complete the set of work they have collectively committed to complete within a sprint. Scrum teams develop a deep form of camaraderie and a feeling that "we're all in this together.

The term chaordic was coined by Dee Hock, the founder and former CEO of the VISA credit card association.

"By Chaord, I mean any self–organizing, adaptive, non-linear, complex system, whether physical, biological, or social, the behaviour of which exhibits characteristics of both order and chaos or, loosely translated to business terminology, cooperation and competition." Dee Hock

Definition
Chaord (kay'ord):
#any autocatalytic, self-regulating, adaptive, nonlinear, complex organism, organization, or system, whether physical, biological or social, the behavior of which harmoniously exhibits characteristics of both order and chaos.
#an entity whose behavior exhibits patterns and probabilities not governed or explained by the behavior of its parts.
#the fundamental organizing principle of nature and evolution.

Chaordic (kay'ordic):
#anything simultaneously orderly and chaotic.
#patterned in a way dominated neither by order nor chaos.
#existing in the phase between order and chaos.

Source: www.chaordic.org

Characteristics of chaordic organizations
*Are based on clarity of shared purpose and principles.
*Are self-organizing and self-governing in whole and in part.
*Exist primarily to enable their constituent parts.
*Are powered from the periphery, unified from the core.
*Are durable in purpose and principle, malleable in form and function.
*Equitably distribute power, rights, responsibility and rewards.
*Harmoniously combine cooperation and competition.
*Learn, adapt and innovate in ever expanding cycles.
*Are compatible with the human spirit and the biosphere.
*Liberate and amplify ingenuity, initiative and judgment.
*Are compatible with and foster diversity, complexity and change.
*Constructively utilize and harmonize conflict and paradox.
*Restrain and appropriately embed command and control methods.
