Open Media Planet (OMPlanet) is a multidimensional network platform based on free software and interoperable protocols.

This is both an innovative ICT and an innovative societal project inventing and incorporating new solutions from both fields:

On the ICT field we are creating a network ecosystem of interconnected users and organizations to provide a decentralized medium for free communication, independent self-organization, activity planing, open exchange of information, knowledge, services and resources. Mainly we want to enable the interoperability between different dimensions of web services to enable a seamless flow of interaction.

On the Social field we want to connect many inspired individuals, youth/spiritual/ecological communities, eco-villages, NGOs and other non-formal educational/research institutions which are dealing with innovative solutions enabling global civil society, sustainable co-living, holistic well-being and related areas. We do not want to influence these people in any way, but to increasing the interconnectivity and enable free interaction between them is more than enough and they will do well.

While this is a clean slate design and there is much space for creativity, we can see some of the dimensions that already exist here and now. Some examples include: federated social networks, p2p media sharing, p2p transportation sharing (car/ride sharing), couch/garden/garage sharing/p2p renting, crowd-funding/micro-funding platforms, transparent banking systems, market-free exchange zones, virtual currency or bartering systems, sustainable eco-living communes, experimental settlement projects, etc.

OMPlanet is initiated by an independent team of researchers and social workers. OMPlanet dose not belong to a profit-driven company and there is no organization owning or controlling it in a centralized way. No one receives direct credits or provides direct goods on behalf of OMPlanet. It is based on free software platforms with interoperable protocols open to all communities, organizations and individuals. To sustain itself it will need an administrative core but that too will rely on its members' voluntary contributions and take into full account their decision-making power. The free will of people will keep the project running for as long as it is useful.

The informal purpose of the initiative is to project a vision of fair and just human affairs into all areas of human activity. Together, we have the ability to transform societies and governments by putting them into the hands of many more individuals, by providing them the freedom to self-organize and co-create sustainable and harmonious life on this wonderful planet Earth. And we are not dreamers, we want these during our lives and we offer rational solutions for it.
