Open Media Planet (OMPlanet) is a federated multidimensional network ecosystem of free interoperable platforms and their owning members.
This is both a revolutionary ICT and a revolutionary societal project incorporating new solutions from both fields:
On the ICT field this is an effort to create a network ecosystem of interconnected platforms which will belong to its users or their organizations. An ecosystem which will become a decentralized medium for free communication, exchange of social media, independent self-organization and activity planing, sharing of knowledge, services and resources all managed in a federated community based organization that projects the same social concerns as it is off-line. With main focus to enable the interoperability between different dimensions of web services and to trigger a seamless flow of interaction.
On the Social field this is to create a new chaordic organisation to connect independent intentional communities worldwide, youth/spiritual/ecological NGOs, non-formal educational institutions, inspired individuals with new, holistic visions of life, people dealing with innovative solutions for global civil society, sustainable co-living, holistic human well-being and other related areas. This is not an attempt to control or influence anyone of them, but only to provide better tools of interaction, to increase visibility and interconnectivity between them and to let them to self-organize and find the right vector of growth themselves.
While this is a clean slate design and there is much space for creativity, we can see some of the dimensions that already exist here and now. Some examples include: federated social networks, p2p media sharing tools, transport/ride sharing web sites, p2p couch/garden/garage/car sharing and renting web sites, crowd-funding/micro-funding platforms, transparent banking systems, market-free exchange zones, virtual currency or bartering systems, sustainable eco-living communes, experimental settlement projects, etc.
Chaordic Organisation of Owning Members
OMPlanet is initiated by an independent team of social workers and researchers. It is participant-owned and participant-governed with owning members who are visionary, caring and committed individuals and organizations from different parts of the world. There is no single profit-driven company owning or controlling it in a centralized way. No one receives direct credits or provides direct goods on behalf of OMPlanet. It is based on free software platforms with interoperable protocols open to all communities, organizations and individuals. To sustain itself it needs an administrative core but that too will rely on its members' voluntary contributions and take into full account their decision-making power. The free will of people will keep the project running for as long as it is useful.
The informal purpose of the initiative is to project a vision of fair and just human affairs into all areas of human activity, to empower individuals to self-organise into sustainable communities and to live in harmony with themselves and with the environment: Together, we have the ability to transform societies and governments by putting them into the hands of many more individuals, by providing them the freedom to self-organize and co-create sustainable and harmonious life on this wonderful planet Earth. And we are not dreamers, we want these during our lives and we offer rational solutions for it.
